Sand Tarts

Jane Lumpkin Clotiaux
Yield: 3 dozen

If only I had a nickel for each one of these I’ve made over the years. The Clotiaux kids didn’t simply eat these, they INHALED them faster than I could bake them! One day I even made three batches of these and I bet they didn’t last long. (Dec 1996)

When I was too little to know the months of the year, I could always tell when Christmas was close, because Mom would start making these. —Cheri Clotiaux Stringer (Dec 1996)

1 cup butter
1/4 cup powdered sugar
2 tsp vanilla
1 Tbsp water
2 cups flour
1 cup pecans, chopped

Preheat oven to 300˚F. Cream butter and sugar, add vanilla, water and flour. Mix well. Add pecans.

Form small balls and bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 20 minutes or until lightly brown. While hot, roll in powdered sugar.
