Gorgonzola Truffles

Alyson Stringer (originally from Heather Shade Henry)

My friend Heather brought these to our 2010 New Year’s gathering and they were absolutely and immediately addicting — cheese lovers’ heads will swoon! They’re great for parties, as you can make them up to 3 days in advance. (Nov 2010)

4 oz cream cheese, softened
1 (4oz) container crumbled Gorgonzola cheese
2 tsp onion, finely chopped
1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/2 cup bacon, cooked, crumbled
Apple, pear slices or grapes

Beat first 5 ingredients at medium speed with an electric mixer until well combined. Cover tightly and chill at least 1 hour or until firm.

Roll cheese mixture into 3/4-inch-round balls. Roll each ball in bacon. Serve immediately, or cover and chill until ready to serve. If chilled, let stand 30 minutes before serving.

Serve with apple or pear slices or grapes.

NOTE: This recipe can be altered to use feta cheese (thus Feta Cheese Truffles) and rolled in chopped parsley and served with cucumber slices, grapes, Kalamata olives or whole almonds. Or goat cheese (Goat Cheese Truffles), but after pepper, roll in 1/2 cup chopped pecans and serve with dried figs and apricots.
